Rainwater Tank - Take 2

We are still in significant drought here, with very restricted use of water allowed for gardens. So, to establsih our new garden, we are first installing a 56,000 litre rainwater tank. This will augment the existing tank which is 13,000 litres. The collection system and pump are already in place, so it's has just been a matter of deciding on a location. The new large tank will be at the bottom of the site, and a slow-speed pump will transfer water up to the smaller tank at the top of the site. The photo shoes the 7m diameter pad prepared with "quarter-minus" gravel (less than 6mm in size).

Oh wow! I came across your blog by accident when doing a Google search for Victorian-style doorbells. We're building a late-Victorian-style house in country Victoria, and our 'building adventure' sounds like yours, to some extent. We have modelled our house on a couple of homes in Victoria Rd, Camberwell, Victoria. We would have loved a slate (or slate-like roof), but decided against it due to cost. However, we do have bluestone sills (for the front facade, at least) and a fantastic-looking Victorian-style chimney, timber double-hung windows throughout, handpainted leadlighting in front door/entry,... I'd love to share more with you - pictures, stories, etc, but not sure how that's possible? (I'm not a 'blogger', but I am on Facebook.) We started planning for this house in 2007. Building started September 2009 and we're hoping to move in by Christmas 2010, although it will be far from finished - we're doing a lot ourselves. Would love to hear from you!
